Designed for professional kitchens and food service environments, RFX delivers continuous remote temperature monitoring across extended cooks. Wireless probes track internal temperatures in real time so teams can verify doneness, maintain consistency, and protect food safety without interrupting service. Built on patent-pending sub-GHz radio frequency technology, RFX maintains a stable probe-to-gateway connection across kitchens, smokers, ovens, and production spaces—without the dropouts common to Bluetooth®.

Each gateway supports 50+ probes and sends continuous data to the ThermoWorks app and cloud for visibility across multiple cooks simultaneously. Four independently calibrated sensors deliver ±0.9°F accuracy across critical cooking ranges, while the RFX MEAT™ probe withstands external heat up to 1,000°F and runs 50+ hours on a single charge. Whether monitoring briskets in a BBQ pit, verifying pasteurization in cook-chill systems, or tracking temperatures through conveyor ovens, RFX provides reliable, real-time data to support operational efficiency, consistency, and food safety compliance.

Great design and engineering

"Just received and tested. The title says it all. 2.4MHz WiFi channel is an excellent idea to maximize transmission distance and penetration. My only negative comment is that the little Lifesaver candies don’t have any flavor. And they’re chewy. But it was a cute thought."

Phenomenal thermometers for asymmetric cooking.

"These were a game changer for me doing large sessions on the smoker with different cuts going at the same time. Now I dont have to constantly open the door to probe everything. The app is clean and concise. Being able to set temp alarms for each individual probe along with the air temp probe takes alot of stress out of long overnight cooks. Custom alarms wake me up in the event of a flame out so I can fix it ASAP. No more waking up to a stone cold smoker with undercooked meat."

The range is incredible; it

"The range is incredible; it easily maintains a connection from several dozen meters away, even through a metal smokehouse. It’s a real shame, though, that it doesn’t measure the ambient temperature like some other sensors, such as the Meater."

RFX Kit

"So far it has it’s a winner for me. I have a Thermoworks ChefAlarm, an Industrial IR Gun and a Node monitor and the RFX System is a game changer for me. Can’t wait for those cold winter barbecues when I don’t need to be outside to monitor the grill. The only “surprise” was the rigid gateway antenna despite the image of the flexible one on the box. Almost tried to force the antenna before I realized it was rigid. Small disappointment for a great product!"

**ThermoWorks RFX Wireless Meat Thermometer

"**ThermoWorks RFX Wireless Meat Thermometer – 5 Stars! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐** After testing countless wireless meat thermometers over the years, I finally understand why ThermoWorks has such a strong reputation. The RFX system delivers! My setup includes two RFX wireless meat probes, the RFX Gateway, and a dedicated wired ambient temperature sensor. What impresses me most is the reliability. The long-range RF connection is incredibly stable, the four internal sensors in each probe provide precise temperature readings, and the ThermoWorks app makes monitoring cooks effortless. The probes are rated for external temperatures up to 1,000°F, offer 65+ hours of battery life, and recharge in just 20 minutes. Each charging dock runs on a simple AAA battery—no charging cables required! I also appreciate the separate wired ambient sensor, which provides dedicated cooker temperature monitoring. I even put these probes through some extreme steak-searing tests using a 3,000°F+ torch. Although the probes weren't exposed to the torch's full temperature, they experienced some serious heat and are still performing beautifully! **ThermoWorks isn't selling hype. They're delivering precision, durability, and reliability where it matters most. ** With meat prices continuing to rise, accurate temperature monitoring is more valuable than ever. Highly recommended! **MrFlavorsmith** *Live a Life of Flavor. *"

"Just used this and the billows to cook a brisket overnight. Kept my vision grill Komodo style between 220 and 240 effortlessly. Alerted me at the stall point and then I wrapped to finish it off at about 3 AM. Came off the grill at about 0630 and is resting wrapped up. Looks amazing."

Works well so far (once), but wired ambient sensor tethers gateway to grill

"It's worked well so far. I've used it once. HOWEVER... the fact that the ambient sensor is wired means the gateway is tethered to the grill, and if that's out of range of wifi, too bad. I wish there a wireless option for the ambient grill sensor."

Really? You need to have

"Really? You need to have a 2.4GHz wifi to use this device? Is this the early 200s? Did you buy a container full of chipsets for cheap in 2005 and you are still running through the stock. It's ridiculous that I need a 2.4GHz network to use this device. I am sure there are many people out there who cannot or do not know how to set up a separate SSID for archaic devices. Other than that, I love the product. It works extraordinarily well, 2.4Ghz requirement aside."

— Christopher F. (5/5)

Best thing ever

"So easy to set up. LinkedIn to probe instantly. Used in over on chicken first it so accurate and chicken was perfect. I have loved my thermo pen forever. So much I gave every family member one. So order both today or at least start with the pen. Enjoy almost perfection."

RFX Wireless probe

"The ThermoWorks RFX Wireless Probe has officially earned a permanent spot in my BBQ workflow. This thing is stupid‑simple to use — turn it on, pair it, and boom, you’re cooking. No fighting with settings, no dropped signals, no “why is this thing not connecting” nonsense. What I like most is the accuracy. When I say accurate, I mean dead‑on, every single time. I trust it enough to walk away from a brisket for hours because I know the temps it’s feeding me are legit. The wireless range is solid, the interface is clean, and the probes respond fast. It just works — and that’s exactly what I want when I’m filming, cooking, or juggling ten things at once. If you’re serious about BBQ, or you just want a tool that doesn’t make you cuss at technology, the RFX Wireless Probe is the one."

Q&A

Does the RFX communicate through aluminum foil in a smoker? When I smoke pulled pork, the last stage is in a foil pan covered and sealed with foil and another cheap probe I purchased lost communication.
Aluminum foil can block wireless signals if the probe is completely sealed inside! RFX uses powerful sub-GHz radio frequencies to pierce through obstacles, but for the best results when wrapping pulled pork, make sure the end of the probe pokes slightly outside of the foil wrap. Leaving that end exposed inside the smoker chamber ensures your RFX Gateway maintains a rock-solid connection all the way through.
Can the RFX™ Wireless Probe Starter Kit software operate a Billows fan?
Yes, RFX GATEWAY can operate a Billows fan controller.
If you purchase a system with 2 probes, can you buy just the probes and add them to your system or do you need a new gateway built for more probes?
Yes, you can buy additional probes a la carte and connect them to your current RFX GATEWAY. A single gateway can handle 50+ probes simultaneously.
If the RFX probe is properly inserted in the meat can the exposed end withstand direct flames from flare ups?
Yes, when properly inserted the exposed end of RFX MEAT can withstand temperatures up to 1,000° F and brief exposure to flare ups.
Can the RFX probe be used in an oven. I'm assuming yes, but all the photos show it only be used for barbecuing.
Yes, RFX can be used in the oven! Just make sure the RFX MEAT probe is inserted to the minimum immersion line.
